Camille and Carrie have created a "First Quilt" show on their blogs. I have seen many other quilters first quilts and I must say,"wow!" Seems like most quilters bit off more than they could chew and really made a nice job of it. This is my first quilted table runner. My husband told me that this was my first quilt. He remembers me having fun making it and particularly enjoying choosing the fabrics.
This is the first quilt I made from a pattern without anyone to help.
(Carrie you were looking for the "uglies" and here it is ...) I was very proud to make this quilt for my husband ... to make matters worse, the fabric designer was at my house for a retirement party and ... I proudly showed it to her! (oh the horror, of that memory.) She was very gracious and kind (bless her...)
A recent quilt is a difficult decision for me ... I have made many quilts and given them to others, but lately I have been making bed quilts, much too large for me to quilt myself. So I picked one from the last year or so to share.
I have learned to trust myself and do what will make me smile. The rotary cutter is a good friend, and a husband that gives you a room in the house for all your quilting needs is a best friend!
Hi Lollydo! While I love your quilts ~ every one of them! ~ I love your lessons best. Well said, perfectly said and altogether wonderful. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm still looking for that ugly! I didn't find it here... though I really love the story of showing off your quilt in front of the fabric designer. That's hilarious! I confess that I often wonder what the fabric folks really ~ I mean REALLY! ~ think of what I've made with their fabric. And what other's have made. I bet their tongues are really sore from all that biting. :)
Thank you for sharing your quilts and stories!
Your last paragraphs says it all -- well said for sure. Very nice -- love your enthusiasm and sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteFinishing any quilt is praise worthy in my book. When I started I can remember my husband say -- why are you doing this. LOL. But now he understands so I'm with you -- a husband that gives you a room - it's a good thing.
Thanks for sharing...
I agree too with a husband who gives you a room--our living room used to be the "pretty" room in the house, and also the room we didn't "live" in. It is now my sewing room, one of the first rooms you see when you come to our house, and usually filled a riot of fabric, but I love it. And if guests are bothered by the mess when they come to the house, that's their problem, not mine.
ReplyDeleteHi Lollydo! Thank you so much for commenting on my blog ( www.serendipity-julia.blogspot.com ) It was so nice of you to say such a nice thing about my first and only quilt. I plan on doing many more.
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny! I love the story about the quilt designers. I think your first quilts are lovely! I don't think I've seen some ugly ones yet. I know I'll love my first forever. It's not perfect, but man I sure worked hard on it and felt like I was the best homemaker in the world. My kids sure thought I was...LOL!
Hi...thanks for sharing your quilting beauty! I love them and think you did a great job!
ReplyDeleteFor first quilts you've done a great job and your latest is pretty amaazing, all those points. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love all of them (even the uglies!). I believe that my first quilt was made from the same pattern as your last quilt, but I used the pattern pieces without enlarging them to the correct size to get a same version. You're right...quilters do bit off more than they can chew.
ReplyDeleteYes, husbands who give us a room are great!!!Those that let us fill the room are super great!!! Love your quilts.
